I couldn't sleep at all last night

But look what came out of it!

I spent a good part of the holiday weekend, off and on, cleaning the room.  Sorting patterns.  Taking every single piece of fabric off the shelves, rolling it neatly and putting it back.  It doesn't take up that much less room, but it does make the whole structure less susceptible to avalanche.

Next, I cleaned the floor.  I vacuumed for the first time in recent memory and caused the Dyson to choke.  I cleaned the table, and I sorted all the rubble that's in bags and boxes under the table.  I filled 2 trashbags with remnants too small to use, assorted junk and just plain trash, and a brown bag with paper recycling.  I filled 2 bags to take to the sit-and-sew next weekend in the hope that it will get a new home, and another bag for the thrift store.

Last night I worked in there from 9:00 to nearly midnight.  I was tired, but since I'm nursing a cold, I was tired and antsy (that non-drowsy formula certainly is non-drowsy).  We went to bed around 12:30, and at 1:30 I was still wide awake, with visions of fabric swirling in my head like sugarplums.

I gave in.  I got up.  No point in lying there, resenting others who sleep like logs while I'm awake and obsessing.  Back into the room I went, with the idea that I would work for another half hour or so, until I got tired.

Hah!  Know what time I finally gave up and went to bed?  3:45 a.m.

And the chicken alarm went off at 7:00 a.m. so I could go out back and feed and water the girls and then go back to bed.  Which didn't work either, because then Mario's phone rang and it was his contractor who needed to stop by at 8:00, and . . .

You see where this is going.  I have a clean sewing room and I didn't get to use it until 8:00 tonight.  But use it I did, and damn, but it felt good.

Now that's productive. Even a cold didn't hold you back.

I am in awe of your wall of fabric. Awe. It is inspiring to see it all there. I have dreamed about having a wall of fabric such as yours, but silly apartment sun roof and fear of damage and fading have left the fabric confined to boxes. Someday though...

I should try that non-drowsy stuff - whenever I have a cold the sewing mojo is totally gone. Actually, lack of desire to sew is usually the first indication of a cold. Wish I could be as productive as you when I am sick!

It must be the season. I too have been cleaning the sewing room including vacuuming! I've now started cataloguing my fabric stash.

Hmm... not that I like others not to sleep; but I hate it when I'm awake and every one else sleep like logs too!

I wish I had the energy to tidy my sewing room - I love the idea of rolling the fabric so I may start there. Thanks for the inspiration!

Bravo to you for carrying on no matter what gets in your way.

Wow, check out all that fabric! Do you find you feel more like sewing in a clean sewing room? Looks like you were quite the busy bee! Feel better soon.

It must be time to clean. I did my major sewing room clean up the day after Christmas. I spent the entire day cleaning and purging. It feels so good to work in a neat organized space. I swear it will never get messy again. Ha ha ha haaa. I make myself laugh.
Feel better.

I'm glad that you not only got the room cleaned but that you also got to use it. But seriously, is that ALL the fabric you own?

You made good use of your time! you must feel great that you got so much done. I'm jealous! I have started on the chaos that is my sewing room. Maybe I need a sleepless night :).

Good girl!! I cleaned the pantry yesterday - isn't it great to just go in and admire that clean baby! Hope you get lots of sleep tonight :)

I was trying to decide if your ferris wheel is a ferris wheel or some sort of spinning wheel in disguise. I still can't decide.

I love the idea of rolling the fabric, I may have to try that and maybe, just maybe, avoid a fabrilanche or two.

Maybe.

(It's funny how if I take the non-drowsy stuff during the day, I still feel exhausted, but I once made the mistake of taking it at night... and I was WIDE awake. You just can't win with a cold. I hope you feel better quickly!)

Also BAHAHAHA at Carolyn's comment because I was sort of thinking that same thing to myself.

Um.

We know we have issues.

Great way to start the year - even if you had to sacrifice a sleepless night for it. Two bags of trash and 2 bags to re-home someplace else...doesn't it make you feel free? Sorting out all the bits that need to go somewhere always makes me feel like all is right with the world. Now you can really enjoy the time in your sewing room and let your mojo run free. Nice job, and you have pictures to remember it!

Hooray! I posted my sewing room clean up over on my blog, too. The lack of mess is like a weight lifted off my shoulders.

I have the opposite problem these last few days... I go to sleep thinking I'd rather be awake tidying my sewing room LOL!

I like the fabric-roll idea - v. smart :)

So impressive! I have been good about culling the fabric shelves, but the rest of the sewing room is a disaster. Of epic proportions. If only I were the type of person who couldn't work in chaos, but I actually kind of prefer it. However, it is scaring the boyfriend so I should probably do something about it.
