Cherry Bomb

The battle is over.

I won.

It was close.

It was bloody. There was swearing. There was wine.

There is, at the end of it, however, a DRESS. Full review is here.

After the zipper debacle, there was the complication of not having enough rattail left to make piping for the seam between the skirt and the flounce. No biggie - I just cut a 1/2" strip and sewed it between the two. It's narrow enough to look like piping and not as necessary down there.

Then there was my misguided attempt at tidying my workspace before I put the dress on Evelyn. Somehow while moving my rotary cutter from one side of the table to the other (yes, with the blade exposed) I managed to drop it. It bounced off the dress. It cut a nice hole in the dress. Thankfully it was in a low-stress area and I ironed interfacing on the back of the hole and then zigzagged over it on the front.

Anything else?

The sewing gods sat back and thought about it and decided no, that was enough.

I like the dress, I really do. I just can't look at it right now.

It's really cute, when you can stand to look at it again. We all have projects like that

It's absolutely fabulous. I love it. If you never get around to being able to stand it, I'd take it!

;)

VERY cute. Good job (even with mishaps and all). Love that piping on it.

Oh no! What else could have gone wrong? Blame it on the Gremlins who visit one's sewing room from time to time and have a good laugh! The dress is terrific, despite them.

For goodness sake! Well it is a beautiful dress so you will look at it again and wear it.:)

It really is a lovely dress. I understand not being able to look at it. I have one of those. Can't stand to look at the dress without a sneer. Still want to burn the pattern

I admire you so much for finishing it. It's really cute! But when the cut was made in the dress, that's when I would have sobbed and walked away :-)

Cute dress. My god, the mishaps you have had. I am experiencing bad sewing karma myself today.

I'm so glad you blogged about it all! I am in the midst of a project like that and it's good to know I'm not alone (I don't have a blog, though). One thing after another is going wrong, to the point where I am losing my sewing confidence and feel like I need to sew something easy next to bolster it.

That dress is sooo pretty. I may have to go hunt for cherry printed fabric!

Well, it's undoubtably cute, that's for sure!

Maybe you guys need to take a break from each other for a bit...

One thing isn't quite clear to me, though: how tight is it and were?

Because I have this traced, IIRC, but I have no recollection of the stretch woven vs woven situation you mention!

(I also have a bad feeling that the UFO in that black bag I just unearthed might be this one, yep, in a woven)
